COVID-19 and Your Rental Unit: Webinar & Slides

We are in uncertain times and having access to up to date and relevant information is critical in managing your rental housing business. In this webinar Hunter Boucher, Director of Operations presented on the changes that have curred over the past week within the rental housing industry.

This webinar primarily focused on the Ministerial order which was signed Monday, March 30 by the Honorable Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. This Ministerial Order M089 made significant changes to a wide variety of policies and procedures under the Residential Tenancy Act. Hunter also discussed in overview some of the Federal and Provincial financial supports available to tenants that may find it difficult to pay rent due to COVID-19.

A key take away from this webinar was around the changes to end of tenancy procedures. Hunter explained that if Notice to End tenancy was served prior to March 30 it is still considered valid though enforcement through a Writ of Possession and bailiff would have to wait until the State of Emergency is lifted. Hunter also explained that landlords may not issue new Notices to End tenancy while this order is in place and should instead document issues to deal with once the emergency has subsided.
