LandlordBC Says Yes to the Proposed New Transit Tax

Press Release

(Vancouver, BC) – LandLordBC today announced support for the Metro Vancouver Congestion Improvement Tax being proposed by the Metro Vancouver Council of Mayors to fund transit and transportation improvements across the region.

Metro Vancouverites are being asked to vote in a referendum scheduled for March 16 – 29, 2015, for the adoption of a half-point increase to the Provincial Sales Tax (PST).  The new tax revenue will be dedicated to the implementation of the Metro Vancouver Mayor’s Transportation and Transit Plan.  The plan proposes a Broadway subway line, light rail between Surrey, Guilford, Newton and Langley, a new Pattullo Bridge, more handyDart service, increases SkyTrain, Seabus and West Coast Express services, and expanded walkways and cycling lanes.

LandlordBC is joining a broad-based coalition of business, environmental, labour, community and student groups to support the regional sales tax to fund transit and transportation improvements across the Metro Vancouver region.

David Hutniak, CEO of LandlordBC stated that “the regional transit tax is an affordable, equitable means of funding needed transit and transportation improvements in our region that will benefit our residents, the economy and our environment.”  Hutniak added that “the dedication of the tax to the expansion of transit and transportation services is a strategic investment that will result in the reduction of traffic congestion and harmful emissions, shorter commute times, more efficient movement of people and goods and the continued livability of our beautiful region.”
