BC passes new Residential Tenancy Act legislation
Bill 40 – Natural Gas Development Statutes Amendment Act, 2015 was passed by the Legislative Assembly of BC on November 16, 2015 and received Royal Assent on November 17th. Contained in the Bill are amendments to the Residential Tenancy Act allowing a tenant who is fleeing family violence or who has been accepted into a long-term care facility to end their fixed term tenancy early. They are contained in sections 30-36 of Bill 40. These amendments will not be brought into force until the accompanying regulations are complete. A consultative process with key stakeholders will begin in the early 2016. LandlordBC will be part of that consultative process.
